Meta: A new artificial intelligence function on the Invisalign® app may make treatment times shorter and more streamlined.
We have apps for everything these days. From relaxation and sleep to games, music, even specialized calculators. But a new app could revolutionize the way we undergo a popular orthodontic treatment: Invisalign®.
Invisalign® is a system of clear plastic brackets that are molded to fit and slowly move your teeth, just like braces. The benefits to Invisalign® are myriad. They’re clear, so it’s hard to detect you are wearing them. They fit comfortably over the teeth, so they are often considered less painful than traditional wire and bracket braces, and they’re removable, so you can eat whatever foods you normally enjoy, brush your teeth, and put them right back on. Though you must be able to commit to at least 22 hours of daily wear, Invisalign® braces often take less time to complete treatment than traditional braces do.
But now, the makers of Invisalign® may be coming out with yet another benefit to these high-tech braces. A specialized artificial intelligence (AI) app that will help with treatment.
The app will allow patients to track their treatment on their own, from the comfort of anywhere they choose to log in. The app will send the wearer treatment instructions from the doctor conducting the Invisalign® treatment, and even allow patients to scan and photograph their teeth to update their progress and promote patients to the next step in their treatment journey.
Furthermore, it will offer tips and tricks for success with Invisalign®.
While these functions of the app are not yet available to wearers, the app will make this treatment even easier for doctors and patients. The app idea began in 2020 when Invisalign® created an app for dentists to better virtually monitor the progress of their Invisalign® patients during the COVID-19 pandemic and subsequent quarantine.
The creation of an app like this may make for fewer visits to Dr. Abelar’s office for check-ins, and may also speed along treatment if the patient is able to upload scans of their teeth more frequently than they might be able to visit their provider.
While the AI function of the app is not yet available, in the meantime it’s never too early to get started on your Invisalign® treatment with Dr. Abelar!
