Is Invisalign® Better For Teens?

If you have a child who needs orthodontic treatment, it may be difficult or confusing deciding which options are best for your child. Both wire and bracket braces and clear aligners like Invisalign® have their pros and cons when it comes to treating kids’ teeth, but in many cases a solution like Invisalign® is simply better.

To be clear, some mouths simply do better with wire and bracket braces depending on the severity of the orthodontic work needed. This can be discussed during your consultation with Dr. Abelar. That being said, for those who are eligible for Invisalign®, there are myriad benefits to this type of treatment, especially when it comes to kids and teens. Keep reading to learn more

They Can Come Out Easily

Need to remove your aligners? No problem. They go in and out of the mouth with ease, and can be removed for easy care and eating in seconds.

They’re Easier To Clean

Invisalign® aligners are much easier to clean than wire and bracket braces. That’s because they can be easily removed from the teeth for meals and for oral hygiene care. While it is recommended that Invisalign® aligners are worn for at least 22 hours per day, removing them for cleaning only takes minutes. You can even soak them in denture or retainer cleanser while you eat, and they can be gently scrubbed with a soft bristled toothbrush to remove any excess debris or plaque.

Furthermore, they won’t get food and debris stuck in them like regular braces will, making cleaning them faster and possibly more effective. This is extremely helpful for teens or children who do not care for their teeth as well as they could be.

They’re More Comfortable

Invisalign® aligners fit over the teeth comfortably and do not have wires that could poke or jab the cheeks like wire and braces sometimes can. They gradually move the teeth, so the pulling sensation you will get with aligners is similar to wire and bracket braces, but most people find them less irritating than wire and bracket braces

Treatment Duration

With Invisalign® aligners, you can often look forward to a shorter treatment duration- usually around two years or less. This is a lower average than wire and bracket braces, which your child or teen will surely appreciate!
