Sometimes it’s hard to know when it’s the right time to do something. Do you buy that stock? Is it a buyer’s or seller’s housing market? Will those strawberries go bad if you buy them two days before you need them? But then there are things that are easy to determine, like if you should see a dentist or hold off. Here are some common reasons you may want to see a dentist right away.
Bleeding Gums
Do you brush and floss regularly but still see blood when you do? This could be a sign of gingivitis. Conversely, if you don’t brush or floss regularly and see blood when you do, this can also be a sign of gum problems. Keep persisting with a regular routine and this bleeding could go away. Bottom line, you should be brushing twice a day for two minutes each time and flossing at least once a day. If this is your routine and you are still bleeding, contact Dr. Abelar’s office for further instruction. If you are ramping up your routine the bleeding may subside on its own after a few weeks.
Tooth Pain
Do you have persistent tooth pain? Don’t wait to contact Dr. Abelar’s office to schedule an appointment. Tooth pain isn’t normal and shouldn’t be ignored. It could be the sign of a tooth infection or a cavity, both of which will need to be treated and repaired before they get worse. Don’t let being afraid of a filling or a root canal stop you from making an appointment, as these issues can get worse the longer they are left unfixed.
Abscesses
If you have any sores in your mouth that will not heal after two weeks or so, it could be the sign of something more serious than your standard canker sore. Contact Dr. Abelar’s office to schedule an appointment if you notice any abnormalities in your mouth, whether they be on your gums, cheeks or tongue.
Discolored Teeth
Teeth looking a little dingy? Has it been at least six months since your last cleaning? It’s probably time for an exam and cleaning. Contact Dr. Abelar’s office to schedule your annual or semi-annual dental exam today by calling 858-523-1400.
